Five Minute Friday: Smile

When our reasons to smile may seem so few
and the rare smiles that come are hidden from view
under masks that protect but also deny
our emotions we hide behind seeing eyes.

May we turn to the One who will always remain
to comfort our souls and share in our pain;
the One who will carry our burdens and fears
and help us to smile- even through tears.

The Lord bless you and keep you;
the Lord make his face to shine upon you, and be gracious to you;
the Lord lift up his countenance upon you, and give you peace.

~Numbers 6:22-26 (NRSV)

  1. Karen, the verses rom Numbers are just perfect for me today.
    Last night was just viciously bad, and was surpassed by the passing (sorry) of black blood this morning…but I’m still smiling.
    It doesn’t take the pain away, but it makes me a better person in the moment, and the moment’s got to count. Terminal cancer’s just a part of life; there’s a world out there that I can encourage through my words, a wie I can encourage through actions, and maybe even a God who’s encouraged by a sort of Energizer Bunny of Lethality.
    And with all that, the smile’s not pasted on. It goes all the way to my toes, because with the unerstanding of the situation, however grim, comes the knowledge that these are truly the happiest days of my life, because it’s my choice to make them so.
    Does that make sense?

      I know your smile is genuine, for it comes from your spirit of strength and acceptance and faith. This makes me smile. Love you my friend.

Sandi’s son Kennie has just a few weeks before he goes home to Jesus and he is smiling through his pain knowing he has fought the good fight. He is ready to go and just like Andrew he has no fear because he will be released from his pain! His life has Blessed So many, just as Andrew’s has, including mine! How can we complain about our frailties and weakening bodies when others have been bearing so. Much, with a smile!
