HOW IS GOD LOVING ME – AND WHERE IS GOD LEADING ME?
FIVE MINUTE FRIDAY: LIFT
Uplifting God,
Oh, I thank you for the many times you have lifted me
from my burdens of sorrow, guilt, and worry!
How might I lift others in return?
Do I lift their names to you in prayer?
Do I raise my voice to speak for justice?
Do I pull them up with a helping hand?
Do I lead them toward a new tomorrow?
Or are you calling me to something more?
Inspire me to rid myself
of everything that is not of you.
Then place my emptied self beneath the hurting
and begin filling me with your goodness and love.
As I gradually expand with more of you,
may the hurting be gently uplifted
and may I remain the humble soil of your holy ground.

Your words brought a smile as I remember my grandmother lifting each family member up in prayer any time she prayed. I am sure the Lord responded to many of her prayers for my life and am so grateful. May I be faithful to lift others up in prayer as they come to mind.

I try to lift folks up in prayer,
but back where I come from,
the only way to get me there
is from behind a gun,
for there are monsters in the Earth,
that roam this pleasant land,
and, my friend, for what it’s worth
they need to understand
that some of us, though maybe flawed,
and maybe seem too violent
with all our hearts believe in God
and so will not stay silent
when slavery seems modern right;
there’s time for peace, and time to fight.
