A PICTURE AND A POEM: HOPE

There’s a glow behind the foothills –
a new day is about to dawn,
but down here in the valley
we will keep our porch lights on.

For even as we sense the hope
of an ending to the night
we are essential keepers
and bearers of the light.

  1. WOW. The photo and poem are so lovely, Karen.

The picture reminded my of fireflies.

They gather nightly in the gloaming,
    carrying light from the day,
and what grace might they be loaning,
what do their cheery flashes say?
Is it true what some believe,
that they’re loved ones come to keep
watch by night that we’ll receive
peace and comfort for our sleep,
that in their bright-lit voiceless song
we see the notes the angels sing,
and come what may know we belong
beneath the shelter of His wing,
for there is no real love that dies,
and thus comes hope from fireflies.
