FIVE MINUTE FRIDAY: DESERVE

FMF Writing Prompt Link-up :: Deserve – Five Minute Friday

Keep me, God,
from trying to make sense of our world
by dividing it into tidy categories
according to what we deserve.

Keep me, God,
from deeming who is worthy or unfit,
from judging who merits your goodness
and who should be denied it.

Keep me, God,
from separating your love and call
according to my joys and trials,
for your goodness shines through all.

Help me, God,
to divide only the word, deserve,
and choose to live with gratitude and grace,
my focus solely on serve.

(Five Minute Friday is an online writing community. Each week, we are given a one-word prompt and five minutes to write. You may find other posts or add your own at the link above!)

  1. I love how you took the word ‘serve’ out of deserve. Yes, it’s easy to start judging others until we realize that we’re existing on grace too!

  3. This is so well written, Karen, I think I’m going to print it out and place it on my desk as a reminder. Thanks for sharing this prayer poem.
